Il premio internazionale vedrà sfilare nella meravigliosa cornice del teatro del mare dell’Hotel Santavenere.
We are pleased to announce the dates of the next edition of the Marateale, which will be held from 25 to 29 July 2023.
A program as always full of events, meetings, sections and prizes, to tell multiple points of view through cinema, on life, on art, on the environment.
The international award will see a parade in the wonderful setting of the theater of the sea of the Hotel Santavenere.
Over the years, the Festival has become a site of comparison between international cinema and the emerging scene.
Everything is ready for the 16th edition of “Marateale – Basilicata International Award” which will be held from today, 23 July, to 27 July in Maratea, in the Teatro sul mare of the Hotel Santavenere.
In the splendid setting of the “pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea”, five days dedicated to cinema and beyond, with events, screenings, meetings, all open to the public, under the artistic direction of Nicola Timpone with the collaboration of Antonella Caramia.
The masterclasses at the Hotel Murmann will take place in the Garden, while those at the Hotel Santavenere will take place in the Garden at the main entrance.

Our festival joins Voce Spettacolo’s Oscar® qualifying program to celebrate Italian cinema in Hollywood!
In this unique collaboration, Voce Spettacolo’s VS Oscar Qualifying Program will join the Marateale Festival to offer the winner of the short film section the opportunity to qualify for the 2025 Oscars®, through distribution and screening in Los Angeles.
This partnership represents a significant step to strengthen the commitment in the seventh art to recognize and promote Italian films in Hollywood. The objectives of the collaboration aim to support the growth and visibility of Italian talents and celebrate diversity and innovation in the world of cinema.
We are thrilled to work closely with Voce Spettacolo to bring quality cinema to the attention of American audiences and Academy members.
Garrone, with his work that won the Anica commission, surpassed 11 other films in the selection, demonstrating once again the excellence of Italian cinema. The shortlist will be revealed on December 21, while the Oscar nominations will be announced on January 23, 2024. The Oscar ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on March 10, 2024.
10 international feature films of fiction, documentaries and animation, linked to environmental and sustainability themes, will be selected to participate in a competition with numerous prizes.
The intent is to pay particular attention to young people with a vast spectrum of initiatives aimed at meeting the world of cinema. With a view to offering a greater visibility to the young people that taking part, the MARATEALE IN SHORT competition was born, which involves the selection of ten Italian and/or international short films.
